AMC Exam Dates 2027: MCQ Schedule, Deadlines & Registration Guide for IMGs
If you are an international medical graduate planning your AMC assessment for 2027, the single most useful thing you can do early is map the calendar. The AMC standard pathway runs on booking windows and rolling deadlines, not a single national exam day — so knowing when scheduling closes for each sitting is what keeps your plan on track.
This guide sets out every 2027 AMC CAT MCQ date the AMC has published so far, explains how booking and results work, covers where the Clinical Examination stands for 2027 (and why no dates exist yet), and lists the lead-time items that quietly derail timelines if you leave them late.
The AMC standard pathway in one minute
For IMGs seeking general registration who are not eligible for the Competent Authority Pathway, the standard pathway has two assessment components. You must pass both to earn the AMC Certificate:
- The AMC CAT MCQ Examination, and then
- Either the AMC Clinical Examination or a Workplace-Based Assessment (WBA).
You sit the MCQ first. Specialist pathways are separate and are assessed by the relevant specialist college — this guide is about the standard pathway.
AMC CAT MCQ examination: the 2027 dates
The AMC CAT MCQ is a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT) — 150 multiple-choice questions (one correct answer from five options) sat in a single 3.5-hour session at Pearson VUE test centres worldwide. "Adaptive" means the exam adjusts to you: answer a question correctly and the next one is harder, get it wrong and the next is easier, so every candidate sits a unique version and you must answer all 150 to get a valid result. What it is not is a single fixed national date — instead the AMC publishes monthly examination windows, and you book a single day within a window at a centre of your choice.
As at 21 July 2026, the AMC candidate portal has loaded seven 2027 sittings, February through August 2027:
| Sitting | Scheduling closes | Exam window | Results released |
|---|---|---|---|
| February 2027 | Mon 25 Jan 2027 | Mon 15 – Sat 20 Feb 2027 | Fri 12 Mar 2027 |
| March 2027 | Mon 22 Feb 2027 | Mon 15 – Sat 20 Mar 2027 | Fri 9 Apr 2027 |
| April 2027 | Mon 22 Mar 2027 | Mon 12 – Sat 17 Apr 2027 | Fri 7 May 2027 |
| May 2027 | Mon 26 Apr 2027 | Mon 17 – Sat 22 May 2027 | Fri 11 Jun 2027 |
| June 2027 | Mon 24 May 2027 | Mon 14 – Sat 19 Jun 2027 | Fri 9 Jul 2027 |
| July 2027 | Mon 21 Jun 2027 | Mon 12 – Sat 17 Jul 2027 | Fri 6 Aug 2027 |
| August 2027 | Mon 26 Jul 2027 | Mon 16 – Sat 21 Aug 2027 | Fri 10 Sep 2027 |
Three things to read alongside that table:
- September–December 2027 are not loaded yet. The AMC states it "may include additional CAT MCQ Examination dates throughout a calendar year," so expect more 2027 sittings to appear later in the year. Don't assume the year ends in August.
- 2026 sittings still show on the same portal page. When you log in, check the year on each row before you book — it is easy to grab a 2026 seat by mistake.
- All dates are subject to change. These are as published on the AMC candidate portal on 21 July 2026; confirm on the portal before you plan around any single date.
What "scheduling closes" means
The scheduling-close date is the deadline to book — or change, or withdraw from — a seat for that month's window. You can move events and venues without penalty before the closing date; after it, no changes, withdrawals or reschedules are accepted for that sitting. Treat the scheduling-close date, not the exam date, as your real deadline for each window.
How booking actually works
- Apply through your AMC account for an authorisation to schedule. This authorisation is valid for 12 months — so an authorisation granted in 2026 can be used to book a 2027 sitting.
- Book a specific date and venue with Pearson VUE. Seats at popular centres are limited and allocated first come, first served, so book early for your preferred city and date.
- Sit the 3.5-hour session. Results are released at 4.00pm on the Friday, three weeks after your examination date (the dates in the table above).
Because places are capacity-limited, the practical advice is the same every month: secure your seat as soon as your authorisation is active and you know which window you're aiming for, rather than waiting for the scheduling-close date.
AMC Clinical Examination: where 2027 stands
Once you pass the MCQ, the Clinical Examination is one of the two routes to the AMC Certificate. It is an OSCE-style exam of 16 assessed stations plus 4 rest stations, each station 10 minutes (2 minutes reading, 8 minutes assessment). 14 stations are scored, and you pass by achieving a pass in 9 or more of those 14. It is offered in person at the AMC's test centre in Melbourne and, for eligible candidates, online.
Here is the honest position for 2027, because it differs from the MCQ:
No 2027 Clinical Examination dates have been published. The AMC releases clinical scheduling in rolling multi-month blocks, only a few months ahead, and the most recent released block covers September–December 2026. There is no 2027 block yet, and the AMC states clinical scheduling and dates are "subject to change or cancellation."
So if the Clinical Examination is your next step for 2027, the action isn't to circle a date — it's to watch the AMC's clinical-examination scheduling page and be ready to apply the moment a 2027 block opens. Placements are allocated first come, first served and popular blocks fill fast.
Or: the Workplace-Based Assessment (WBA)
Instead of the Clinical Examination, eligible candidates can complete a Workplace-Based Assessment — a period of supervised, assessed practice at an AMC-accredited health service. A WBA doesn't run on a fixed exam calendar; its timing depends on securing a position at an accredited site, so it is planned around employment rather than a public date.
Fees (confirm the current amount before you pay)
The AMC's published fees are not year-stamped, and the fees page states no separate 2027 schedule. As a planning guide, the current amounts are:
| Item | Current fee (AUD) |
|---|---|
| CAT MCQ authorisation | $2,920 |
| Clinical Examination (in person) | $3,000 |
| Clinical Examination (online) | $3,400 |
| Workplace-Based Assessment | $1,070 |
Confirm the fee on the AMC's Fees and Charges page at the time you book — regulator fees are commonly reviewed at the start of a calendar year, and a fee you read today may have moved by the time you pay in 2027.
The lead-time items to start now
These have no fixed 2027 date, but they gate everything downstream, so start them early:
- English language skills. English proficiency is a Medical Board of Australia / Ahpra requirement for registration — not an AMC exam requirement — but you need it in place to register after you pass. Ahpra updated its English language skills registration standard in April 2026, so check the current list of accepted tests and required scores on Ahpra's own page rather than relying on older figures. Booking a test and waiting on results is often the longest lead-time item in the whole pathway.
- Primary source verification. Your medical qualifications must be verified at source (through ECFMG / EPIC). Turnaround depends on your issuing institution's response, not on the AMC, so it can be slow — begin it well before you want to sit.
Working backwards from a 2027 sitting
| When | Do this |
|---|---|
| Now | Start primary source verification; sit your English test if you'll need it for registration |
| ~2–3 months before your target window | Hold a valid AMC authorisation to schedule |
| Before the scheduling-close date | Book your Pearson VUE seat — earlier is safer, seats are capped |
| Exam window | Sit the 3.5-hour MCQ |
| The Friday 3 weeks later | Results released at 4.00pm |
| After you pass | Apply for the Clinical Examination when a 2027 block opens, or arrange a WBA |
What's changed — and what it means for you in 2027
No AMC change starts in 2027, but three that landed earlier are fully in force for anyone sitting next year:
- You can no longer review or change your answers. Each question must be answered before the next is delivered, and once answered you cannot go back and change it. The AMC flags this specifically for anyone who has attempted the MCQ before — so any practice routine built around flagging questions and reviewing at the end no longer matches the real exam.
- The MCQ pass standard rose slightly from 2026. The AMC has said it is introducing "a slight increase to the pass standard" while continuing to report performance on the 0–500 scale with the pass described as 250. It has not published the size of the increase, so treat it as a reason to aim comfortably clear of the line rather than a number to calculate around.
- The Clinical Examination Specifications are now V8.3. The substantive change is that each station's predominant assessment area is now displayed on screen, in the top right of the reading screen (History Taking, Examination, Diagnostic Formulation, or Management/Counselling/Education). Study from V8.3 rather than the older V8.
One more that catches people out: English test minimum scores changed on 23 April 2026, and the rule keys to when you sat the test, not when you apply. A test taken on or before 22 April 2026 is judged against the old scores; from 23 April 2026, the new ones. Ahpra notes the underlying level of proficiency required did not change, but the PTE and TOEFL numbers did move — and results are only valid for two years before you lodge.
The clinical exam structure itself is unchanged for 2027: 16 assessed stations (including two pilot stations) plus four rest stations, with your result determined on 14 stations — a pass is 9 or more of those 14.
Before you rely on any of this
Every date above is from the AMC candidate portal, read on 21 July 2026, and the AMC states its examination dates are subject to change or cancellation. September–December 2027 MCQ dates and all 2027 Clinical Examination dates had not been published at that time. Always confirm the current dates in your AMC account before booking travel, leave or anything else you can't easily undo.

Where we fit in
The dates are the AMC's. What you do with the months before your sitting is the part you control. Our AMC MCQ preparation course is built around the standard-pathway MCQ — Australian-context clinical knowledge, guideline-aligned management, and a large bank of exam-style questions — so you walk into that 3.5-hour session genuinely ready.

Frequently Asked Questions
When are the AMC MCQ exams in 2027?
As at 21 July 2026, the AMC candidate portal lists monthly CAT MCQ sittings from February to August 2027, with exam windows running Monday to Saturday each month: 15–20 Feb, 15–20 Mar, 12–17 Apr, 17–22 May, 14–19 Jun, 12–17 Jul and 16–21 Aug 2027. September–December 2027 dates are not yet loaded, and the AMC may add more dates during the year. Always confirm the current dates in your AMC account, as they are subject to change.
What are the AMC MCQ scheduling deadlines for 2027?
Each 2027 sitting has a scheduling-close date — the last day to book, change or withdraw a seat for that window. They are: 25 Jan (Feb sitting), 22 Feb (Mar), 22 Mar (Apr), 26 Apr (May), 24 May (Jun), 21 Jun (Jul) and 26 Jul 2027 (Aug). After the closing date, no changes, reschedules or withdrawals are accepted for that sitting.
When will I get my AMC MCQ results in 2027?
AMC MCQ results are released at 4.00pm on the Friday three weeks after your examination date. For the published 2027 sittings that means results on 12 Mar, 9 Apr, 7 May, 11 Jun, 9 Jul, 6 Aug and 10 Sep 2027 respectively.
Are there AMC Clinical Examination dates for 2027?
Not yet. As at 21 July 2026, no 2027 Clinical Examination dates have been published. The AMC releases clinical scheduling in rolling multi-month blocks a few months ahead, and the latest released block covers September–December 2026. If the Clinical Examination is your next step, watch the AMC clinical-examination scheduling page and apply as soon as a 2027 block opens, because placements fill quickly.
How does AMC MCQ booking work?
You apply through your AMC account for an authorisation to schedule, which is valid for 12 months. You then book a specific date and venue with Pearson VUE, where seats are limited and allocated first come, first served. So an authorisation granted in 2026 can be used to book a 2027 sitting, and booking early gives you the best choice of date and centre.
How much does the AMC exam cost?
The AMC does not publish a separate 2027 fee schedule. As a current guide, the CAT MCQ authorisation is $2,920, the Clinical Examination is $3,000 in person or $3,400 online, and a Workplace-Based Assessment is $1,070 (all AUD). These are not year-stamped, so confirm the current amount on the AMC Fees and Charges page before you pay.
